Resilient Maintenance Matters

Keep your resilient floors looking — and performing — their best with regular cleaning and maintenance.

Scheduled Maintenance
Makes a Difference

Use our maintenance guidelines to properly care for your resilient floors.

Resilient Maintenance Checklist

Preventive Maintenance:
Newly Installed Floor

  1. Once your new Patcraft resilient floor is installed, keep all foot traffic off the new floor for at least 24 hours.
  2. Keep furniture, fixtures and rolling traffic off your new floor for at least 36 hours.
  3. Remove adhesive residue with a clean white cloth dampened with mineral spirits.
  4. Use 1/4” or thicker plywood to protect the new floor’s surface when moving heavy objects across it.
  5. Lightly damp mop the floor as needed.
  6. Wait at least four days before wet washing and/or scrubbing the floor.
Alternate Text

Preventive Maintenance: General

  1. Use entryway walk-off mats that are as wide as the doorway and long enough for soil load and weather conditions.
  2. Use mats with a non-staining backing.
  3. Use floor protectors on all furniture legs with a surface area of no less than 1” in diameter.

Initial Resilient Floor Maintenance

  1. Sweep, vacuum or dust-mop the floor to remove dirt and grit.
  2. If needed, add a neutral pH cleaner to cool water prior to mopping or scrubbing (follow manufacturers’ instructions).
  3. Scrub the floor with a low-RPM machine or auto-scrubber using a red pad or brush. (Never use brown or black pads: these are too aggressive and can damage your resilient floor).
  4. Remove the cleaning solution with a wet-dry vacuum or auto-scrubber until the floor is dry.
  5. Rinse the floor with clean water, and repeat the process if necessary to remove all haze.

Routine Resilient Floor Maintenance

  1. Sweep, vacuum or dust-mop the floor to remove dirt and grit.
  2. Add neutral pH cleaner to cool water (follow manufacturer’s instructions).
  3. As needed, scrub with a low-RPM machine or auto-scrubber using a red pad to retain appearance. (Never use brown or black pads: these are too aggressive and can damage your resilient floor).
