For the third consecutive year, we partnered with Design Milk for the Transform Design Workshop, an immersive forum designed to spark learning and conversation through insightful content and engaging panel discussions. While this year’s virtual format was a little different, what we aim to accomplish remained the same: to engage and inspire through rich dialogue and conversation. Ultimately, this event allows us to create connections and form new relationships - touchpoints that feel even more important today.
Broken into a series of virtual events, our key focus this year was on consumer drives and how they impact the design process. Our first event, held on October 22, included a panel discussion with industry experts Shannon Cochran, Patcraft vice president creative + design; Jennifer Edwards, consultant director at WGSN; and Nujhat Jahid-Alam, senior occupancy planner, CBRE Global Workplace (Coca-Cola). The discussion moderated by Jaime Derringer, found + chief creative officer at Design Milk, really dove into how much consumer drivers like fear and uncertainty have accelerated this year and how that impacts design and business strategies. Attended by a select group of designers from across the United States, this intimate group provided valuable insights to these themes, underscoring the importance of creating connections with each other and within our design process.
Our largest portion of the Transform Design Workshop was held on December 1. Joining the panel in place of Nujhat Jahid-Alam, was Jenna Sheingold, Creative Director + Principal Interior Designer, Jenna Sheingold Studio. The panel further explored how consumer drivers such as connectivity and balancing uncertainty play into the product design and interior design processes; how trends are identified; and how consumers and brands use this information to inform a creative design process. Additionally, Jennifer Edwards provided further insight into WGSN which is a subscription based service that forecasts trends in a variety of segments including commercial design, fashion, food and more.
Following the panel discussion, the panel answered Q&A's provided by participants.
