Environmental Impact

A Holistic Approach

As we consider a holistic approach to how we define sustainability, we use this knowledge to create solutions and products to meet market needs. By integrating product stewardship, material usage, durability, performance, and human impact into the product development process, we adhere to our guiding policies and standards across all of our business. This focus spans from design to material selection to supply chain management, where we concentrate on sustainable, circular materials and recyclable and renewable products.

We were the first manufacturer to have a Cradle to Cradle Certified® flooring product, and the vast majority of our carpet portfolio is Cradle to Cradle Certified Silver (v3.1). In addition to our ongoing work with the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, we have continued to expand our relationship and involvement with many other organizations, including the International WELL Building Institute, the U.S. Green Building Council, mindful MATERIALS, International Living Future Institute, Health Care Without Harm and Health Product Declaration Collaborative. Additionally, since 2018, all of our soft surface flooring offerings are manufactured in carbon neutral facilities. All of this work helps us advance toward continuously better products — allowing us to transform spaces not only through design, but also through products.

Carbon Neutrality

Patcraft is committed to delivering products that are designed with the health of our population and our planet in mind. For more than 10 years, we have been on a journey to continuously decrease our carbon emissions, and since 2010, have lowered our operational carbon footprint by more than 50% and continue to focus on new ways and innovations to lower even more. Additionally, all of our commercial soft surface flooring is made in carbon neutral manufacturing facilities.

re[TURN]® Reclamation Program

As important to us as the selection of the materials in our products is what happens to products at the end of their useful lives. That’s why materials reclamation and recycling has long been a key consideration in the way we design and make our flooring. Our re[TURN]® Reclamation Program allows you to return your EcoWorx, ReWorx and Shaw- made resilient flooring at the end of its useful life to divert from the landfill and provide us with the means to continue the cycle of creating new products out of old.

Cradle to Cradle Certified™

As the first flooring manufacturer to achieve Cradle to Cradle Certified®, we are consistently focused on new innovations around product stewardship and overall environmental and human health. All EcoWorx products with EcoSolution Q nylon are Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver (v3.1), meaning that they have met all of the requirements of that multi-attribute product certification that includes material health, product circularity, clean air and climate protection, water and soil stewardship, and social fairness. The protocols outlined in Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM Products Program are what drive our design philosophy and our own product sustainability standards.

CRI Green Label Plus

The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Green Label Plus certifications evaluate emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in carpet, cushions and adhesives, by ensuring compliance to CDPH/EHLB Standard Method V1.1 Section 01350. By passing Green Label Plus standards, we ensure that VOC emissions from our products are not above the thresholds for low-emitting products.

Environmental Product Declarations

A third-party verified program, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) summarize the life cycle analysis (LCA) into environmental impacts for a product according to a set of Product Category Rules (PCR). Declarations include information on the environmental impact of raw material acquisition, energy use and efficiency, content of materials and chemical substances, emissions to air, soil and water and waste generation. EPDs are the summary document from an LCA that allow a product manufacturer to more easily communicate a product’s environmental footprint and identify areas where impacts can be reduced. Our EPDs are verified in accordance with EN 15804 and ISO14025 standards.

LEED

One of the leading Building Certifications in the U.S. today, LEED considers a variety of areas to determine how sustainable a physical structure is for its occupants and the earth. A variety of our products contribute to LEED v4 credits, based on their sustainable design and our manufacturing processes.

Committed to ensuring we are doing our part, many of our own administrative and manufacturing facilities are LEED certified including the Create Centre - our product development and marketing headquarters, and our carpet tile manufacturing facilities in Cartersville, GA, Adairsville, GA, and Nantong, China.

Living Building Challenge

Greener buildings matter to everyone. The Living Building Challenge helps drive the world’s most aspirational standards for green buildings (and the materials used to create them). An extremely rigorous green building certification program developed by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI).

Social Responsibility

From charitable donations and community causes to partnerships with global organizations dedicated to improving quality of life, social responsibility matters as much to our business as, well, making flooring. Patcraft team members are little league coaches; mentors at schools and local organizations; foster parents; cooks who volunteer their time to those less fortunate; and leaders in local nonprofit organizations. These efforts are instrumental in building strong sales leaders throughout our organization, while ensuring that each of the communities in which we live and work are being positively impacted by our company.
